With the storm coming in (heavy rain and a gale force south easterly) I had a feeling animal numbers would be down today and I was right. But I still don’t think the weather explains why there are so few sea lions here!
Mammals:
- Harbour seal: 83
- Elephant seal: 1
- Steller sea lion: 458
- California sea lion: 222
Birds:
- Bald eagle: 3
- Gull: 366
- Cormorant: 917
- Oyster catcher: 2
- Turnstone: 10
The weather was already taking a turn today so I didn’t see as many of the smaller bird species as I usually do either.
